Gold Plating: All That Glitters

By: Jacquelene Sena

Gold plating is described as an electroplating process where an electrically conductive item is coated with a layer of gold using electrical current. Most probably, you have already seen items that are end products of gold plating. Some inexpensive jewelry with a fine coating of gold are products of gold plating.

The gold plating process is fairly simple. First, the object that will be coated will be placed with a negative charge. After putting a negative charge on the object it will then be immersed in a salt solution of gold. Because it is positively charged, the metallic ions of the salt will be attracted to the negatively charged object. The positively charged ions will revert back to their metallic form giving you a newly electroplated object.

You can buy a machine that will enable you to deposit genuine gold, silver or rhodium on to any metallic surface. These machines are portable and smaller and lighter than a video recorder.

A portable gold plating machine makes use of a process called "selective brush plating." With a portable gold plating machine, you can plate items without removing them. You can even do money gold, silver or rhodium plating while customers wait. You can make large amounts of money while doing bath fittings, watches, jewelry, cutlery, ornaments and gifts.

The gold plating process using a portable gold plating machine is not hard to do. It would only take you 15 minutes to learn operating the portable gold plating machine. The portable gold plating machine is also sage to use. It carries a coveted CE standard mark for electrical devices. All electrical devices are required to carry this standard.

With a portable gold plating machine, you do not have to purchase expensive tank systems. You don't have to rent or buy a large and expensive space for your business. A portable gold plating machine does not require stockholding if solution inventories. Finally, a portable gold plating machine does not require costly dismantling of the item to be gold-plated.

Using a portable gold plating machine involves a proven system with a three stage process. This process include: 1) removal of the existing chrome, 2) activation of the underlying nickel surface and, 3) plating with 24k gold. Items that can be gold plated include bathroom fittings, jewelry, cutlery, ornaments, trophies, car emblems.

Aside from an impressive income for you, a portable gold plating machine can offer big discounts for your different clients.

A good example where you can really offer big saving to clients is with bathroom gold fittings. New imitation gold fittings for a standard bathroom will cost around £400. Worse, these imitation gold fittings don't last long. They easily fade and get tarnished. Add to the cost of the bathroom fitting the fee of the plumber who will do it. A plumber's fee would run into anything above £300. So an individual wanting to have a gold fitted bathroom using a standard imitation gold fitting would have to shell out somewhere between £700 and £1000. The cost would be more if the plumbers will have to take down the bath, sink etc.

By using a portable gold plating machine, it would cost your client somewhere between £200 to £300. The finish from a portable gold plating machine would definitely last longer than the finish done from an imitation bathroom fitting. Moreover, a portable gold plating machine provides less labor intensive service. Gold plating an entire bathroom would just take around 2 to 3 hours. You can make between £180 to £260 profit, per bathroom, for just a couple of hours work. You do the math.

That's a lot of money. While making an excellent return of income, you will also save your customers lots of money.
